Amen Clinics

Services: Nutrition suggestions are an important part of the Amen Clinics Method and are included in your full evaluation, yet we also offer comprehensive, one-on-one nutrition consultations, facilitated by trained dietitians and nutritionists at Amen Clinics. A nutrition plan tailored to your brain can be very beneficial, if for instance:

You would you like to find natural ways to feel better with less (or even NO) medication.

It is hard for you to lose weight—no matter what you try.

You are interested in learning which foods can optimize your brain function as well as improve your mood and behavior.

Remarks: At Amen Clinics, we have long known that food can be medicine, or it can be poison. The foods you eat either enhance your brain health, cognitive function, and mental well-being, or they give you brain fog and mess with your moods. We have developed simple food rules intended to supercharge anyone’s brain function and have identified specific types of eating plans that work best depending on your brain type. With information about your brain, we can point you to the right strategies to help you think faster, feel happier, and achieve and maintain a healthy weight.

What is a Traumatic Brain Injury?

A “TBI,” or “Traumatic Brain Injury,” refers to a significant brain injury caused by an external force, such as a sudden bump, jarring blow, or violent jolt to the head. This type of injury can profoundly impact how the brain operates, influencing everything from basic motor skills to complex thought processes. The severity of a TBI can vary greatly, with mild forms, such as concussions, often being underestimated, while severe injuries can result in life-altering consequences.

Causes:

Identifying the causes of TBIs is essential for prevention. These injuries can occur in a myriad of situations—a sudden fall down a flight of stairs, a high-impact car accident, an intense collision during a sports game, or being struck by a falling object. Each of these scenarios poses a risk and highlights the unpredictable nature of TBIs.

Severity Levels:

The spectrum of TBI severity is broad and significant. Mild TBIs may manifest as brief moments of confusion or persistent headaches, symptoms that may be mistaken for mere fatigue. On the other end of the spectrum, severe injuries can lead to prolonged unconsciousness or a coma, leaving individuals facing a long road to recovery and sometimes permanent disabilities that affect their ability to engage in daily life or even communicate.

Symptoms:

Recognizing the diverse range of symptoms associated with TBIs is crucial for timely intervention. A person suffering from a TBI might experience a constellation of symptoms, including debilitating headaches, a disorienting sense of dizziness, and troubling memory lapses. They may struggle to concentrate on tasks that were once simple, endure sudden mood swings, or exhibit changes in behavior that puzzle their loved ones, signaling the need for immediate medical attention.

Diagnosis:

Diagnosing a TBI is a critical process that requires a careful and comprehensive approach. Medical professionals typically conduct a thorough evaluation that includes neurological testing and advanced imaging techniques like CT scans or MRIs. These diagnostic tools are essential in determining the extent of the brain injury and guiding the development of an effective treatment plan tailored to the individual’s needs. Timely diagnosis can make all the difference in the recovery journey, opening the door to rehabilitation and support that can help individuals reclaim their lives.

Non-traumatic brain injury (NTBI), often recognized as an acquired brain injury, arises from internal factors that inflict damage on the brain. These factors can range from a critical lack of oxygen to exposure to harmful toxins or even pressure exerted by a tumor. The implications can be profound and life-altering.

Here are some compelling examples of non-traumatic brain injuries:

 – Stroke: A sudden interruption of blood flow to the brain, leading to potential disability.

 – Near-drowning: A harrowing experience that can result in oxygen deprivation and significant brain injury.

Aneurysm: A dangerous bulging of a blood vessel that can rupture, causing devastating effects.

Tumor: The presence of abnormal growths that can exert pressure on brain tissue and disrupt function.

 – Infectious diseases: Conditions such as meningitis that can severely impact brain health.

– Lack of oxygen supply: Critical events like heart attacks that can compromise oxygen delivery to the brain, resulting in serious injury.
